Steamship Kouta is the northest steamer in Finland and Europe (maybe in the whole world).
It was built in 1920 and served as a passenger ship between Sotkamo and Kajaani from 1921 to 1936 (named Wuokatti II). At that time there were no roads in northern Finland and steamship was the easiest and fastest way to travel, deliver post and goods to market.
In 1937 the ship was renewed into a tug boat and given it's name Kouta. For the next 30 years it pulled lografts on lake Oulujärvi. In the late sixties motor boats took the place of old steamers and for ten years Kouta was unused in the harbor while many of the old steamboats were sold to klunker. In 1975 it finally found new owners, who restored it as a passanger ship and the ship has been operative since 1985.
